OFFERING OPPORTUNITIES FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE.

Underprivileged children share the same dreams as any other child. They yearn to excel in school, embrace a joyful life, and revel in the freedom from illness.

Yet, countless children needlessly endure the pain of avoidable and manageable ailments. A significant number are denied basic education due to societal divisions.

Numerous parents toil tirelessly, performing strenuous labour throughout the day. However, their efforts often fall short in securing a better life for their children.

You have the potential to make a transformative impact.

ISHITA MALIK - A 6-YEAR-OLD FIGHTER - THALASSEMIA WAS ONLY THE START

Emerging into the world within a financially disadvantaged household in Pardankuni, Ishita's life took a challenging turn as she was diagnosed with this debilitating blood disorder shortly after her birth. Her father engages in daily wage labor, while her mother valiantly endeavours to nurture Ishita and the entire family on a meager income. Given the demanding nature of thalassemia, which demands regular blood transfusions, Ishita's mother grapples with the arduous task of ensuring each required hospital visit becomes a reality.

In 2013, an already distressing situation took a dire turn. A devastating incident occurred as one of Ishita's blood transfusions inadvertently introduced Hepatitis C into her system.

The financial strain imposed by the necessity of treating both illnesses has become an overwhelming burden for Ishita's parents. Your support is the pivotal factor preventing Ishita from enduring a slow decline without access to treatment.

Thanks to your intervention, Ishita is now receiving the essential medical care that offers her a chance at a conventional life. Moreover, the weight of this challenge has been lifted from her parents' shoulders, restoring their optimism not only for their own future but also for the prospects of their daughter.

In India, the cost of a year's worth of thalassemia treatments, including medications and blood transfusions, amounts to approximately £400.

Will you consider extending your support to aid more children residing in the slums, like Ishita, who are afflicted by curable illnesses?

URGENT APPEAL: ESTABLISHING A
NEW SCHOOL

Why do certain children living in India's slums miss out on educational opportunities? Four reasons - all of which you can actively address and make a difference in.

Caste Bias: Deep-rooted stereotypes lead some educators to dismiss 'slum kids' and derogatorily termed 'rag-pickers' as incapable of learning. We've taken the challenging step of parting ways with team members who perpetuated these biases and held back children's potential due to these harmful notions.

Poverty: The harsh reality is that hunger and exhaustion often hinder children in the slums from attending school. We've encountered students arriving famished, struggling to focus due to the debilitating effects of inadequate nutrition. To counter this, we prioritize nourishing them before initiating their lessons.

Kids attending Remedia’s Happy Learning Centers meet outside,

like this one, or in crowded rooms.

They sit on dirt floors, and write on the ground.

Disease: Numerous children in the slums grapple with preventable and treatable illnesses such as tuberculosis and thalassemia. Sadly, their families lack the financial means and resources required to provide them with the necessary care. Consequently, they remain at home, enduring suffering and missing out on educational opportunities.

Special Needs: Schools across India typically lack the training and resources to accommodate children with special needs, such as mental illness and autism. Consequently, these children are often left without any access to education.

Kids at Remedia's Happy Learning Centres gather outside or within cramped spaces. They sit on dirt floors and write on the ground. Schools either turn away such children or allow them to slip through the cracks without pursuing them.

How can you make a difference?

Our urgent requirement is for a dedicated facility - a new educational building where we can operate independently. Here, we will provide education to the children who are often overlooked by other schools. Our aim is to create an environment that caters to all their needs and facilitates their learning journey. We aspire to establish a trustworthy space where parents can confidently entrust their children's futures to us, offering them an opportunity for a better life.
